Immigration Medical Exam

An immigration medical exam is a mandatory medical assessment required by immigration authorities for individuals seeking entry into a country or applying for a visa. Conducted by authorized civil surgeons or panel physicians, these exams aim to assess the applicant’s health status. The exam includes a physical examination, review of medical history, and screening for communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, syphilis, and HIV/AIDS, as well as vaccination status.

Immigration Medical Examination Process

Initial Consultation

•Patients seeking immigration medical examinations first schedule an appointment with the clinic or can come as a walk in.

• During the initial consultation, the healthcare provider explains the requirements and process for the immigration medical exam.

Documentation

•Patients are required to bring certain documents, including identification, passport , vaccines records, etc.
•Form I-693, also known as the Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, is required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for individuals applying for immigration benefits, such as adjustment of status to obtain a green card or work permit.

Physical Examination

•The clinic conducts a thorough physical examination of the patient, including measurements of vital signs, assessment of medical history, and examination of body systems.
•The physical examination helps ensure that the applicant meets the health requirements set by the U.S. government for immigration purposes.

Laboratory Testing

• As part of the immigration medical examination, specific laboratory tests are conducted to screen for infectious diseases.
• Required laboratory tests typically include screening for syphilis, gonorrhea, and tuberculosis (TB).
• These tests help identify any communicable diseases that may affect public health or require treatment.

Vaccinations

• If the applicant does not have documentation of certain vaccinations, they may be administered during the immigration medical examination. (we can apply some of them but in other vaccines the applicant should go to the pharmacy to get it)
• Required vaccinations for adults may include COVID-19, hepatitis, tetanus, and measles (rubella).
• Administering vaccinations ensures that applicants meet the vaccination requirements outlined by USCIS

Documentation Completion

• Once the physical examination, laboratory testing, and vaccination administration are completed, the clinic fills out Form I-693 with the examination findings, test results, and vaccination records.
•The completed form is sealed in an envelope and provided to the applicant for submission to USCIS as part of their immigration application.
